Over the past years, many attempts have been made to engineer a decent build around this potentially broken card. Well, I'm not going to lie to you. It will stay pretty far from being broken, but ever since Kavu Predator this build has had to be taken into account as a serious threat. Thus, let's look at the Decklist first:
// Lands
4 [RAV] Overgrown Tomb
2 [PLC] Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
3 [B] Forest (3)
3 [ST] Swamp (4)
4 [ON] Bloodstained Mire
4 [R] Bayou
// Creatures
4 [PLC] Kavu Predator
4 [NE] Skyshroud Cutter
4 [RAV] Dark Confidant
// Spells
4 [ON] False Cure
3 [JU] Cabal Therapy
4 [US] Duress
4 [MM] Invigorate
4 [NE] Reverent Silence
2 [NE] Refreshing Rain
3 [CHK] Sensei’s Divining Top
4 [LRW] Thoughtseize
// Sideboard
SB: 3 [MI] Seeds of Innocence
SB: 4 [UD] Compost
SB: 4 [TSP] Krosan Grip
SB: 4 [PLC] Extirpate
How to play the deck:
The playstyle is fairly simple:
You start off disrupting the enemy's hand with one of the 11 disruptions. After you made sure there is no removal left (counterspells, fows, swords to plowshares, etc...) you play either a Dark confidant or a Kavu Predator. After that, the rest of the game should be pretty simple to win: You start making your opponent gain life in order for the Kavu to grow. In fact, you can even cast a false cure before making your opponent gain life in order to make him lose life AND make the Kavu grow. Let's take this sample hand to illustrate this better:
1. Play Thoughtseize
2. Play Kavu
3. Play false cure, then Skyshroud Cutter and then Reverent Silence. Your opponent will gain +11 life and lose 22, ending up with 9 life. But since the opponent will have gained 11 life, the Kavu will be a 13/13 beast with trample, which, after attacking, will leave your opponent with -2 of total life.
